About Vilanova

Vilanova lies virtually halfway between Barcelona and Tarragona in the province of Catalunia and has the third largest port in the region.

Less than half an hour from the city of Barcelona and El Prat International Airport there are excellent connections to European and international destinations.  Barcelona Sants railway station has connections to national and international destinations through its new A.V.E. (high-speed) rail network. With trains running at speeds up to 300 km/h, Madrid is reached in a little less than two and a half hours. Reus Airport to the south also provides good low cost flight opportunities.

Vilanova i la Geltru to give it its full name, is one of the Catalan towns that blends the old with the new. On one hand there is the new modern Superyacht facility, Vilanova Grand Marina, on the other there’s the well-preserved old town, with some outstanding buildings and medieval walls. Vilanova also has one of Catalonia’s longest, most gracious Ramblas, which takes you on an interesting walk of over a kilometre, finishing up at Plaça de les Neus.

Backed by the mountainous Parc Natural del Garraf it enjoys a mild and temperate microclimate, which means that it has enviable temperatures every month of the year. Vilanova’s coastline has more than 4 km of fine sandy beaches, clear tranquil waters, varied restaurants and with a resident fishing fleet, seafood abounds.

With traditional festivities, Vilanova has one of the region’s richest programs of annual celebrations. The town’s principal festival begins on the final weekend in July with the breath-taking ‘Correfoc’, an exhilarating procession of fire-breathing dragons and torch-wielding demons that winds its way through the city amidst thousands of participants and spectators.

The nearby town of Sitges is known for its Mediterranean beaches and seafront promenade, lined with grand mansions. The compact old town and surrounding streets are filled with shops, restaurants and many bars and nightclubs. The Maricel Museum and Cau Ferrat Museum showcase Catalan and other Spanish art.

The beautiful surrounding countryside offers many attractions with plentiful opportunities for leisure activities including hiking and cycling.  Famous golf courses are within easy reach; the main roads leading to the ski slopes of the Spanish Pyrenees and Andorra are also easily accessed from this part of the Catalan coast.

Just to the north of Vilanova lies the Penedes wine region, here some of the most important wine growers in the whole of Spain are to be found, such as Bodegas Torres. The area is also home to the world famous Spanish Cava’s, Freixenet and Codorniu.

With Vilanova Grand Marina providing all the necessary facilities, Vilanova is an excellent superyacht destination, in an enviable location, close to the major transport hubs, but away from the hustle and bustle of city life, it has fast become very popular with crews and owners alike.
