About Guadeloupe

The island of Guadeloupe is the largest island in the Lesser Antilles and boasts a lively mix of Creole culture with an interesting blend of modern cities, rural hamlets, rainforests and secluded beaches.
Guadeloupe is a ‘taste of France’ in the Caribbean, with a population of about 330,000 - tourism is important, as is agriculture, with an emphasis on sugar cane - the local 'rhum' being highly valued in France.
It has a first-class infrastructure, an international airport, good medical facilities, well-maintained roads, superstores and highly professional, experienced services for yachts of all sizes. It is part of a beautiful archipelago – comprised of the magical island group of Les Îsles des Saintes and the unspoilt peaceful island of Marie-Galante.
Captains and owners, who include Guadeloupe in their cruising itinerary, increasingly praise the varied and diverse attractions that the islands have to offer.

Now with Guadeloupe Superyacht Docks offering 5 stern-to slips for large yachts in Pointe-a-Pitre, with an in-house professional experienced yacht agent, as well as Marina Bas du Fort taking yachts up to 165ft LOA, Guadeloupe makes an excellent stop – for crew on their way down-island or picking up the owner / guests from the large international airport, where any sized private jet can land.

In the heart of Pointe-a-Pitre itself, the 50m floating dock managed by IMM, a highly professional superyacht refit and repair company, provides full superyacht refit services to European standards.

Provisioning, stocking up and general shopping is excellent in superstores such as Carrefour, Decathlon for sports equipment and Mr. Bricolage for hardware - all carrying the same extensive stocks as in mainland France. Port Louis, in the north of the island, has witnessed some superyacht surf activity, and the picturesque fishing port of Deshaies – a long time favourite for many visiting yachts - has benefitted from the installation of moorings, which are mainly used for local boats, so its recommended to anchor further out, in depths of 30-40ft.

These delightful French islands offer an endless choice of exciting activities ashore, all easily accessible with assistance provided by the recommended ‘yacht services’ agents we list. The islands have sparked world-wide interest due to the popular British television show ‘Death in Paradise’!

Discover the beautiful diversity of scenery from the large and sometimes secluded white beaches of Grande Terre (a haven for wave, wind and kite surfing) to exploring the dramatic mountain scenery of Basse-Terre. Other energetic adventures can be enjoyed such as tree canopy zip lining, canyoning, and hiking / diving in the Cousteau Park. Additionally, gentle walks to hidden waterfalls, tours of superb botanical gardens and Amerindian sites, and visits to restored sugar plantations and rum factories provide further fascinating historical shore-side attractions.
