About Cuba

Cuba is an archipelago that encompasses the island of Cuba, the largest island in the Caribbean, the Isla de la Juventud, and some 1,600 small islands and keys, for a total territory of 110,860 km2.
Located in the Caribbean Sea at the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico, its ‘discovery’ and occupation by Spain dates back to Christopher Columbus’s ‘New World’ voyage of 1492.

Cuba’s population is estimated at approx. 13 million and the island is approx. 42,803 square miles in surface area.

Cuba is strategically placed in the Caribbean chain of islands and offers a pivotal ‘stepping stone’ gateway to Honduras, Belize, the Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Florida and Jamaica. In recent times, more and more yachts have been visiting Cuba’s shores, and there has been some exciting and adventurous feedback for this historic and culturally rich land from a variety of visiting yachts.

With Cuba’s beautiful beaches, excellent diving, fabulous sport and game fishing, incredible music and artistic culture, the island has a lot to offer. This includes its intriguing and historical cities – such as Trinidad and capital city Havana – where one can still enjoy the authentic Cuban experience of vibrant music, bars, Mojitos, Daiquiris, grandiose ‘period’ architecture and hotels, together with some ‘outlandishly’ old automobiles and that unmistakably Latin spirit that still signatures Cuba as one of the few remaining bastions of a romantic bygone era.

Captains planning a Cuba itinerary should ALWAYS use a Cuba-based yacht services contact to organise their cruising itinerary (due mainly to the paperworks and occasional governmental restrictions) and should also continue to measure their expectations after arrival to avoid too many surprises – This cautious compromise, however, is more than outweighed by the unique and wonderful shore-side experiences that Cuba has to offer your guests after arrival.

More good news is that visa restrictions for visitors are minimal, private jet entry is welcomed with prior arrangement, VIP handling at the airport is inexpensive (and strongly recommended for both clients and crew members) and direct flights for guests (as well as parts and packages) are available from Europe and Canada.

A call to one of the recommended Yacht Services contacts will result in pre-planned shore-side concierge and logistical support for all one’s requirements.
