About Barbados

Despite its relatively small geographical size (of only 21 x 11 miles at its widest part), Barbados offers a myriad of top class facilities for superyachts, their owners and guests. On the waterfront, Port St. Charles offers dockage for yachts up to 250' LOA; with the further option of three large moorings outside their breakwater suitable for superyachts in excess of 300 feet.

Further south in Bridgetown, the Carenage has docking for yachts up to 75ft LOA with 9ft draft. On the west coast at Cobbles Cove, Gibbs Bay and Glitter Bay, four large moorings for superyachts are available – which can be booked through one of the local yacht agents.

As a yachting arrival hub, vessels of all sizes can continue to receive the highest level of professional shoreside support from the marina services of Port St. Charles (see ‘Marinas & Moorings’ section), together with MC Yacht & Shipping Services (see ‘Yacht Services / Concierge Services’ section).

Shoreside itinerary options for both clients and crew include a seemingly unlimited choice of fine dining establishments on the West Coast (see ‘Restaurants / Bars & Cafes’ section); a selection of luxury hotels and resorts; a variety of top class golf courses (see ‘Sports & Fitness’ section); a very active and welcoming Polo circuit; the most prestigious horse racing event in the Eastern Caribbean; some amazing luxury shopping centres such as the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre in Holetown; great scuba diving; ‘internationally acclaimed’ surfing, kiteboarding and windsurfing; and a very interesting choice of ‘island tours’ – which include some exciting historical sites, plantation houses, and even a visit to the subterranean ‘Harrisons Cave’ in the centre of the island (see ‘Shoreside Activities’ section).

The Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) continues to be a very useful and logistically convenient ‘regional hub’ airport, providing some of the best international commercial flight connections throughout the entire Caribbean. GAIA is also home to the Barbados I.A.M. Jet Centre (see ‘Aircraft Charters / Ground Handling’ section), which continues to provide a superb FBO facility for private jet clients and British Airways premium class passengers. Provisioning and further general goods and services available in Barbados are all renowned for their high standards and courteous delivery.

In summary, the consolidated development of the island’s marine services infrastructure, together with good international flight connections, makes Barbados a workable and practical base for yachts, from which to start or end a guest or owner cruise.
