Antigua & Barbuda Search And Rescue, ABSAR, is a non-profit organization that provides 24/7 emergency assistance in and around Antigua and Barbuda. Founded in 1998, it provides search and rescue, medical and firefighting services.
The organization is run by a group of volunteers with extensive medical, marine, aviation and firefighting backgrounds. They currently have a 28’ Protector RIB and a 27’ Revenger RIB for their rescue boats, which are both used for search and rescues and for regatta support. They can co-ordinate aerial search and rescues and medivacs using both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. They have a medic station based at the Antigua Yacht Club Marina, which treats over 800 medical cases each year. They have a Land Rover ambulance and a rescue vehicle that are used to transport patients to the island’s main hospital and to other medical facilities on the island. ABSAR receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations. The organization is supported by local sponsors and relies heavily on fundraising efforts. All donations are welcome… “so that others may live.”
