About Saba

This small island offers exceptional diving and equally exceptional hiking in the island’s pristine mountainous lush interior

Known as the ‘Smallest and the Tallest’ of the Netherlands Antilles islands, this memorable little island embodies the 'old Caribbean' and has become an increasingly popular destination since being featured in the best-selling book: ‘1000 Places to see before you die’!

Saba is not only recommended as being a unique ‘get away from it all’ island, but for Superyachts with energetic guests or owners on board, this small island offers exceptional diving and equally exceptional hiking in the pristine mountainous lush interior. All large yachts visiting The Saba Marine Park are advised to contact the authorities ahead of time to be advised of the moorings available or for information on anchoring.

As one of the most important Caribbean dive areas, the island of Saba boasts decompression chambers, and SCUBA diving within the National Park is only permitted when accompanied by an approved local dive shop (all details can be found within this chapter).

Increasingly those Superyachts that carry their own ‘on board’ submarines are enjoying the stunning underwater world that surrounds Saba. Apart from the fabulous diving, Saba has beautiful scenery, delightful little villages with friendly people, we highly recommend an island tour taking in a delicious lunch at one of the island’s hotels or restaurants.

For busy crewmembers in need of a break, Saba offers a complete ‘de-stressing’ and ideal escape destination from the excesses of neighbouring contemporary St. Maarten. In fact, ‘getting high’ in Saba has a whole new meaning in itself (!)… with its towering Mt. Scenery Volcano ascending to 2853ft above sea level and often above the clouds, this is a very different island experience!

There are many recommended hotel options to choose from, so whether you arrive there by Superyacht, Ferry or by air, Saba really does offer a thoroughly enjoyable and revitalizing ‘getaway experience’, even for the weekend – with Saba’s airport’s claim to fame to have the world’s shortest runway at 400m!
