About Puerto Rico

As a US territory, Puerto Rico offers good facilities and support infrastructure for professionally crewed yachts (normal US visa restrictions for crew apply) – with a selection of dedicated superyacht marinas, a choice of professional haul-out facilities to carry out refits / repairs, and an excellent supply chain for parts and shipments.

Beyond this, Puerto Rico also offers boats and clients great shopping and provisioning opportunities, as well as quality shoreside itinerary options including: golf, surfing, great nightlife, historical sightseeing and nature tours – which all encompass the natural beauty and rich history of the island.

Puerto Del Rey Marina & Resort (east coast, Fajardo) continues to be a very attractive port of entry and has great facilities for crew. On the northern coastline, San Juan Bay Marina and the adjacent ‘Club Nautico’ facility offer extensive dockage that includes some essential facilities for deeper draft vessels, and is conveniently located ‘downtown’ – just five minutes away from the nearest airport at Isla Grande. Further to this, the ‘Bahia Urbana’ San Juan Bay waterfront development offers secure dockage for the biggest of superyachts. On the south coast, the marina facility at the charismatic Ponce Yacht and Fishing Club continues to be an alternative strategic stopover, especially for refueling stops and Yacht Club Palmas Del Mar (east coast, Humacao) also has dockage for Superyachts.

Puerto Rico offers a great choice of professional technical service providers, covering mechanical engineering, hydraulics, electrical, electronics and much more. In addition to this, on the east coast at Puerto Del Rey, full service haul-out facilities are available, with three marine travel lifts (up to 165 tons) and a hydraulic trailer (60 tons) onsite – supported by well-recommended and extensive refit / repair facilities at Island Marine Inc.

Shoreside attractions include the attractive historic town of Old San Juan with its historic forts, walled citadels and chic restaurants and bars. The island also offers a host of other attractions, including excellent diving, great game fishing and some world class surfing on the north west and west coasts. There are also excellent golfing opportunities within easy range of San Juan, Puerto del Rey and Palmas del Mar.

For nature lovers, the rainforest at El Yunque National Park on the east coast, together with a choice of exciting natural caves at Arecibo and Camuy on the north coast offer yacht crews some great outward-bound options for shore-side adventures that highlight Puerto Rico’s natural beauty.
